Description

Mill Cottage is a former pair of cottages and part of a mill, now a detached house, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared stone with an asbestos-cement slate roof that is unusually steep, suggesting it may have originally been thatched. To the right of the main structure is a one-storey range that likely served as a service or storage wing.

The exterior features two storeys, with two 16-pane replica sash windows on the first floor above three ground floor windows, all set in face boxes and topped with wide plain stone lintels that include a central keystone and wooden sills. An off-centre panelled door on the left leads to a concrete lintel and is situated under a wide flush relieving arch that also encompasses the window to the left, which was formerly a doorway. The building has a small plinth and brick gable stacks. The left gable showcases large flush stone quoins that project above the roofline, remnants of a previously attached range. The roof slopes down at the rear, where there is a small light in the extended portion of the left gable. A low later range is attached at the rear left, while the low range to the right is built of rubble and features a wide gabled slate roof. Facing the road are three small, deep-set square lights without sills, and the gable end includes a loading-bay plank door above a two-light casement window. The interior has not been inspected.
