Description
Milestone set in the front boundary wall of No. 647 Main Road. This milestone is probably from the early 19th century and is made of local stone, featuring a cast iron plaque. The pillar measures about 400 millimeters wide, tapers to 150 millimeters thick, and stands 800 millimeters tall with a rounded top. The plaque is 400 millimeters wide and 500 millimeters deep, with a shouldered curved top and a double curved base. It reads "Wincanton" on the curve and "5 Sherborne 5". This road was administered by the Shaftesbury and Sherborne Trust from 1753, with Sherborne being added only after 1801.
