Description
The entrance gates, piers, and railings located to the north of Greenfylde School in Ilminster were built in 1878. They feature a plinth and piers made of Ham Hill stone, along with cast-iron railings and gates. The structure runs parallel to the street and angles in towards the gate piers and gates, which are positioned to the right of the center. The square-section piers have a low plinth and a string course below the cap, topped with a truncated pyramid above truncated gables, each adorned with recessed quatrefoils on the sides. The railings consist of five panels on the left and three on the right, supported by hexagonal cast-iron columns that have pyramidal tops. Each panel showcases a quatrefoil design, secured by the foils at the top and bottom, with diagonal struts at the corners. The lower section of the gates incorporates this quatrefoil motif, with bands of smaller quatrefoils both above and below, while the tops feature vertical railings embellished with Gothic ornament.
