Description

  1. WELLINGTON ROAD 5365 (North Side) Gateway and gates at Cemetery of St Mary Magdalene and Bishop's Hull ST 22 SW 3/421 II 2. About 1860, following the opening of the cemetery in 1854. Gateway is of random rubble with ashlar dressings. Tail pointed arch with segmental rear arch above. Buttresses with setoffs to left and right. Crenellated parapet above with quatrefoils in spandrels and weathervane on top. Pretty cast iron double gates to main archway with Gothic traceried motifs eg crockets, quatrefoils, mouchettes. Wheel tracery motif in cresting. Side gate to right with similar details. Polygonal bastions flank the entrance. Included for the gates.
