Description

This pair of gate piers and boundary wall dates from the 19th century and is located 25 metres west of Westlake House, alongside the footpath that runs between Church Street and Dibble's Lane. The gate piers are made of local stone rubble and feature Ham stone ashlar. They are circular in shape, measuring about 600 millimetres in diameter and standing 3 metres high. The piers are rebated for gates and have a plinth with circular moulded caps. The king walls are slightly curved, returning to a garage and the footpath boundary wall. The boundary wall averages 4 metres in height and partly serves as the rear wall to outbuildings. It is constructed of coursed rubble, with large stones set vertically as coping. These features are important elements of this distinctive rural footpath, contributing to the overall character of the village.
