Description

Barton Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins in the 15th century, significantly restyled in the 17th century. It is constructed of local stone, squared and cut, with dressings of Ham stone. The roof is covered in bands of plain and fish-scale clay tiles, with coped gables, and has brick chimney stacks at the ends. The north facade is two storeys high and has an irregular four-bay arrangement. It features three-light, hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in bays one and upper bay two. A plain boarded entrance door is located in lower bay two, set under an exposed timber lintel. Lower bay three has a three-light casement window, positioned above a two-light ovolo-mould mullioned window. Bay four has a 20th-century stone-surrounded window below and a casement window above. A lower extension with a lean-to on the east gable is present. In the west gable, at first-floor level, is a blocked pointed arch window with 15th-century tracery. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
