Description

Gaiges is an early 19th-century house located on the north side of Fore Street in Milverton. It features red sandstone random rubble masonry with a cement plinth strip and a slate roof, topped by a brick stack on the right. The building is two stories high and has two bays. The first floor includes 12-pane sash windows, and to the right of a recessed, partially glazed 20th-century door, there is a tripartite sash window with glazing bars. All openings are framed with rusticated cement surrounds. In front of the house, there is a random rubble retaining wall that supports a raised pavement. Gaiges is part of a group with Mansell House to the west and Barbrook to the east, and it is believed that all three were originally constructed as a single dwelling.
