Description
Temperance Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house located on the north side of Pennine Road in Hartleyburn. The building is constructed of squared rubble with red sandstone dressings and features a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The farmhouse has rusticated quoins and a central flush-panelled door, which is topped by a geometrical overlight set within a rusticated alternating surround that includes a triple keystone. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, with the left and centre windows having been renewed, all set in raised stone surrounds with slightly projecting sills. The end stacks are made of stone with a brick top on the left and entirely of brick on the right. The rear elevation features a round-headed stair window with radial glazing bars, set in a stone surround with imposts and a keystone.
