Priory Dovecote, About 90 Metres East South East Of Abbey Farmhouse

The Priory Dovecote, located about 90 metres east-south-east of Abbey Farmhouse, is a dovecote that dates from the 17th century, although it may have origins from the 15th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble made of Ham stone, with ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is hipped and covered with plain clay tiles, resting on stone slate base courses, and features a lead-covered cap, although the wooden glover has been removed since it was last listed. On the south face, there is a low door with a nearly triangular arched head set in a very deep lintel. The interior is not accessible. This dovecote is possibly one of the remaining relics of the former priory that once occupied this area of the village. It is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset County No 4406).
