Description
This dovecote, located 40 metres southwest of the Rectory, is likely from the 17th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble and features a plain clay tile conical roof supported by two base courses of stone slates. The dovecote has a raised central turret with a timber arcade topped by a domical structure and a weathervane. It has a circular plan and is reinforced by four buttresses with offsets. A low door on the north side has a segmental arch head. The dovecote can accommodate approximately 500 birds and was still in use as of February 1983. It is probably part of the Grange estate associated with Muchelney Abbey and is now part of an important group along with the Rectory and Tithe barn.
