Description

First World War memorial, erected c1920.

MATERIALS: carved from local limestone.

DESCRIPTION: the war memorial, which stands on an octagonal platform, comprises a Latin cross with an octagonal shaft and base, surmounted on a two-stage octagonal pedestal. The east face of the upper section of the pedestal, the dado, has a recessed rectangular panel with the inscription ‘IN REMEMBRANCE’ carved in relief. To either side, on the south-east and north-east face of the dado, is a smaller recessed panel with the year ‘1914’ and ‘1918’, also carved in relief.
