Description
Syme's Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is built of coursed rubble made from Ham stone, with ashlar dressings, and features a thatched roof with stepped coped gables on the main block. The extension has a Welsh slate roof with a stepped coped east gable, and there are brick and stone chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has four bays, with the first two bays being a late 18th-century extension.
The windows include hollow-chamfered mullioned designs set in chamfered recesses, with a 2-light window in bay 1 and a 3-light window in bay 2, both featuring rectangular leaded panes and iron-framed opening lights. Bays 3 and 4 have leaded casements, with a 4-light window in the first floor of bay 3 and 3-light windows in the remainder, all having iron-framed opening lights and timber lintels for the lower windows. Between bays 3 and 4, there is a framed and boarded door set in a heavy frame, topped with a timber lintel. The east gable has a small circular window with a hood mould, while the west gable features a blocked 2-light mullioned window with a label. There are lean-to extensions at the rear of the farmhouse. The interior has not been seen.
