Description

The Old Forge is a cottage located at the end of a row in North Perrott Village. It dates back to the 17th century and has been modified over time. The building is constructed from roughly cut and squared Ham stone with ashlar dressings, topped by a triple-angle clay tiled roof that features stepped coped gables. There are signs of raised flank walling, indicating it may have originally had a thatched roof, and it has brick chimney stacks at each end.

The cottage is two storeys high and consists of two bays. On the ground floor, there are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows; bay 1 has a 2-light window set in a chamfered recess, while bay 2 features a 3-light window in a wave-mould recess, both adorned with labels. To the left of bay 1, there is a single-light small-pane casement window that has been added, and to the right of bay 2, there is a small blocked 2-section stairlight. On the first floor, there are 2- and 3-light horizontal-bar casement windows beneath timber lintels.

Between the two bays, there is a boarded door set on a heavy frame, accessed by three steps, with a label above it. This door appears to be no longer in use, as a 20th-century doorway has been cut into the otherwise plain north gable. The interior of the cottage has not been seen.
