Description
Kemble War Memorial is a First World War memorial dedicated in 1920. It is constructed from local limestone with copper plaques. The memorial stands approximately 3 metres high and comprises a cross with an octagonal shaft that tapers towards the top. This shaft is set on a moulded base, which itself sits on a four-sided plinth, all of which are positioned on a two-stepped platform. The front face of the cross features a relief carving depicting a Sword of Sacrifice. Metal plaques with raised lettering are affixed to each side of the plinth. The plaque on the front face is inscribed with the words “THEIR / NAME / LIVETH / FOR / EVERMORE / 1914-1918”. The remaining three plaques list the names of those who died in the conflict.
