Description
No. 68 Monmouth Street is a house dating from the mid-19th century, featuring incised stucco and a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a domestic Tudor style. The building is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical two-window arrangement. The main block includes a shouldered gable topped with a cross finial, and there is a hoodmould over a small pointed-arched niche at the apex. Above the first floor, there are two tall casement windows with small panes, each having recessed panelled aprons with diagonal crosses incised in the centres.
On the ground floor, the centre features a canted bay window with two lights, which also has small panes, margin panes, and complex glazing in the overlights. This bay is flanked by tall, narrow pointed-arched recesses. To the right, there is a shallow Tudor arch leading to a lean-to roof over a passage, which may be from the 20th century, that leads to a panelled Gothic-style door set well back from the front. The interior has not been inspected.
