Description

This is a milepost dated 1733, located on the north side of Main Street in Hellifield. It is made of millstone grit and stands approximately 65 centimeters tall, with a triangular cross-section. The milepost is inscribed on two faces, although the inscriptions are now partly illegible. It indicates the distances to Grassington (referred to as Griston) and Settle, measuring 7 miles and 4 miles respectively. The distances are measured in customary miles, which are approximately 1.5 statute miles.
