Description
This mile-post, located approximately 150 metres east of the junction with Sawley Moor Lane, dates from the early 19th century and was erected for the Ripon - Pateley Bridge Turnpike Trustees. Made of cast iron, it has a triangular shape with a sloping top and stands about 80 centimetres high. The inscriptions on the mile-post indicate distances: the top reads 'SKIPTON 20', the left face shows 'PATELEY 5' with a pointing hand, and the right face displays 'RIPON 6' with another pointing hand. This information is referenced in B Jennings' "A History of Nidderdale," published in 1967.
