Description
Woodlands is an early to mid-18th century house with an attached barn. The house is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof, while the barn has a corrugated iron roof. The house is two storeys high and has two bays. It features quoins, a central 20th-century glazed door set within an eared architrave with a moulded cornice and triangular pediment, and two-light windows with plain stone surrounds, chamfered mullions, and two-pane casements. It has gable copings and corniced end stacks. Inside, the ground floor on the left side has a large stone fireplace. This fireplace contains semicircular columns supporting ovolo and cavetto moulded brackets that carry the stone overmantle, the fireplace opening being approximately 1.5 metres high, with a mid-20th-century blocking. A cross beam with straight-cut chamfers is also present. The original staircase was positioned against the centre of the rear wall, but was rebuilt in the early 20th century opposite the front door. A small dairy and cold store are located at the rear right of the house. The roof structure consists of two trusses, with a king post supporting splayed struts near the base and two further struts linking a tie beam and principal rafters. The barn, with four bays, has quoins on the left side. It includes a cart entrance under a segmental arch to the left of centre and byre doors at one end with plain stone surrounds. There are three inserted windows.
