Description
The plant container, located approximately 90 metres north of Atlas Fountain, is a Grade II listed structure likely designed in the early 19th century by C. H. Tatham. Made of limestone, it has an oval shape measuring about 5 metres by 2 metres and stands 2 metres tall. The container features two steps leading up to a concave base adorned with gadrooning and a beaded moulding. Above this base, the convex fluted plant container is decorated with acanthus leaves. This site is also included in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission's Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, specifically in Part 32 for North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, which is designated as Grade I.
