Description
Sanderson and Co is a house that has been converted into a shop, dated 1746. It features a roughcast exterior and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with three first-floor windows. A central 20th-century glazed door is set within a moulded stone surround that includes a pulvinated frieze and a pediment, which bears the inscription 'I A' and the date 1746. On either side of the door are 20th-century shop windows. The first floor has a 10-pane fixed-light fire window to the left, while the other windows are sashes with glazing bars. To the left, there is a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, along with brick stacks located at the left end and between the second and third bays. The initials are believed to refer to William I'Anson, the father of Frances, known as the "Sweet Lass of Richmond Hill," who was born in Leyburn.
