Description
The Black Swan Hotel is an early 19th-century hotel located on the north side of Leyburn Market Place. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and stands three storeys tall with four bays. In the second bay, there is a six-panel door set within a 19th-century classical doorcase, which features a wrought-iron lamp above. This door is flanked by 20th-century canted bay windows that include glazing bars. The fourth bay contains a board door providing access to the rear. On the first and second floors, sash windows are positioned beneath flat arches made of rubble voussoirs. The building has end stacks, and on the ground floor, between the third and fourth bays, there is a large animal trap mounted on the wall. The hotel is included for its group value.
