Description

No. 5 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It is dated 1714, as indicated by the datestone on the right side of the first floor, and may include elements from an earlier structure. The shop front was added in the 19th century. The building features a brick plinth at the shop front, painted coursed-stone rubble, and an old plain-tile roof. There is a brick stack at the right end and a truncated brick ridge stack to the left of the center.

The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a five-window range. There is a six-panel part-glazed door located to the right of the center. The 19th-century shop front is situated to the left and center, featuring a central sash door and bay windows on both sides. A plank door is located to the left, while a four-light wood mullion and transom window is to the right. The first floor has three-light casements on the left, center, and right, and two-light casements to the right of center. A 20th-century casement has been added to the original opening on the first floor to the left of center. There are two gabled full dormers on either side of the center.

Inside, the ground floor has been opened up to create a shop space, and there are chamfered spine beams present on the ground floor. The first floor has not been inspected.
