Description

This is a house, likely dating to the 16th century or earlier, and possibly originating as an open hall house. Number 20 was originally its cross wing. The exterior is roughcast, likely over stone rubble at ground floor level, with a timber frame on the first floor. The roof is tiled, with a chimneystack at the right-hand end. The house has two storeys and one window. It features 19th-century casement windows and a plank front door. Inside, the roof appears to have smoke-blackened rafters. It has a queenpost roof with two sets of purlins and curved windbraces, featuring large rafters without a ridgepiece. On the ground floor, there is an open fireplace and a massive spine beam with a 3-inch chamfer. A blocked doorway surround, dating from around 1600, indicates the original access to the cross wing, which is now Number 20.
