Description
House. It likely dates to around 1600, with a cross wing originally part of a larger hall house, now number 18 in separate ownership. The ground floor is roughcast over stone rubble, while the first floor is timber-framed. The building has a gabled front with a tiled roof, and a 16th-century brick chimneystack. It is two storeys high with one window. A casement window is on the first floor, and a sliding sash window is on the ground floor. There is a 20th-century plank door. A deep plinth is visible. An S-shaped iron tie is on the side elevation. The ground floor contains a large, open fireplace with an oak lintel and two seats; a chamfered spine beam with lambs tongue stops and similarly moulded floor joists are also present. Upstairs, there is a bedroom with a smaller brick angled fireplace and a chamfered oak bressumer above. An internal partition wall has curved braces and wattle and daub construction. The roof is a queenpost roof with a collar beam, clasped purlins, and windbraces. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
