Description

The stables, located approximately 20 metres north of Hornby Grange, were built in 1767 and have undergone later alterations. They are constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and feature a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with eight bays, and the central two bays project slightly forward. Each bay has large double carriage doors with semicircular radial panelling above, set under a brick arch with a stepped ashlar impost band.

To the right of the central bays is a hall-glazed door with an overlight, followed by a 20-pane casement window with a stone sill and flat brick arch. Further to the right is a large 20th-century carriage opening. To the left of the central bays, there is a large carriage opening that also projects slightly forward and has a slate sloping roof. Next to it is a board door with an overlight and flat brick arch, followed by another 20-pane casement window with a stone sill and flat brick arch.

On the first floor, all windows have flat brick arches and stone sills. The three left-hand bays feature 12-pane side-sliding sashes, while the others have 12-pane casements. The building has a dentilled eaves band, and the central two bays are topped with a dentilled pediment. The roof is hipped.
