Description
The former stables, built between 1780 and 1790, are located approximately 50 meters east of Broughton Lodge. Constructed from dressed stone with an ashlar south facade, the building features a hipped slate roof and stands two storeys high with five bays. The central bay projects forward under a pediment, while the end bays project under hipped gables. The inner return of the first bay and the second and fourth bays contain sashed windows with glazing bars. The central bay has an elliptical-headed entrance with paired doors that have strap hinges, and there are plain entrances next to the windows. The inner return of the fifth bay has an inserted garage door. The first floor includes ventilation slots and a lunette with small-paned fixed glazing and an opening light in the central bay, while the end bays have round-headed openings with corbelled sills and shutters. The left return features a sashed window with glazing bars, and the right return has a first-floor entrance accessed by stone steps. The rear of the building has a lateral stack. Inside, there are some remaining stalls with an elliptical arcade supported by timber columns, as well as some loose boxes.
