Description
Hampsfell Tower is a shelter built between 1835 and 1854 for Reverend T. Remington. It is constructed of dressed limestone with a rock-faced ground floor and some ashlar. The tower is square and has two storeys. It features a weathered band above the ground floor and a projecting embattled parapet at the top. The ground floor includes partially blocked window openings on the north and south sides, with an entrance on the west side; the east face is built into the slope of the ground. The first floor has pointed window openings on three sides, with an entrance on the east face accessed by a ramp. There is also a lead water spout. The tower is now derelict, with the roof and floor missing as of 1986.
