Description

Broughton House and Broughton House Croft are a pair of houses dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The houses are constructed of roughcast stone with stone dressings, topped by a hipped slate roof. The main facade is two storeys high and three bays wide, featuring a stone base, quoins, a top frieze, and a corbelled cornice. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The entrance has a doorcase with Doric columns, a frieze, and a cornice, enclosing an eight-panel door with glazed upper panels. The left return is four bays wide; the fourth bay features painted blind windows. Ground floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars and opening lights, while first-floor windows have horns, with the window in the third bay being a small-paned casement. A gabled canopy covers the entrance to the third bay. Two chimney stacks are positioned centrally. The rear of the houses consists of two bays—the left bay is recessed, and the right bay has a lean-to extension to its return. Fenestration and the return entrance are varied, with a second bay featuring a lateral chimney stack. The right return also has a cross-axial chimney stack.
