Description

This milestone, located approximately a quarter of a mile north of the village of Sproxton, dates from the late 19th century. It was manufactured by F Mattison & Co of Bedale and is made of cast iron. The milestone has a triangular shape with a sloping upper face. On the left side, it indicates "Malton 15 miles" with a pointing hand above, while the right side shows "Helmsley 1 mile" with a pointing hand above. The manufacturer's name is found on the rear of the milestone.
