Description
Forge Cottage is likely from the 17th century, with earlier origins and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of whitewashed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with brick stacks. It is designed as a 3-cell longhouse with a hearth-passage entry plan, providing accommodation to the left and a former byre to the right. The cottage has one storey and an attic. The front includes a relocated 19th-century stable door, two 3-light casement windows to the left, and one 2-light Yorkshire sash window to the right, all with wooden lintels. In the attic, there are two 20th-century dormer casement windows to the left. Inside, there is a 19th-century heck with signs of an earlier one, as well as a salt box and a spice cupboard. It is likely that the cottage was originally a cruck frame, but no direct evidence of this remains.
