Description

This milestone, located approximately half a mile west of the village, dates from the late 19th century and was manufactured by F Mattison & Co of Bedale. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping upper face. The left side of the milestone displays the distance to Thirsk, marked as 'Thirsk 12', while the right side shows the distance to Helmsley, marked as 'Helmsley 2'. The sloping upper section is inscribed with 'NRYCC', and the manufacturer's name can be found on the rear.
