Springhill Farmhouse And Cottage Attached To Left

Springhill Farmhouse and the attached cottage on the left are located in North Yorkshire. The farmhouse dates from the early to mid 17th century, while the cottage is from the 17th century and likely the mid 18th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof, except for the left bay of the cottage, which has blue slates.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and was originally designed as a four-bay lobby-entry plan, but it is now a three-bay farmhouse with a two-bay cottage to the left, divided to the left of the doorcase. The entrance features a 20th-century glazed door set in a moulded quoined surround with a large lintel under a drip moulding that has quatrefoil stops.

On the ground floor, there are recessed chamfered mullion windows, including a three-light window to the left of the door in the right-hand bay of the cottage (with the mullions removed) and four-light windows in the two right-hand bays, all beneath hood moulds. On the first floor, the cottage has a small square window with a slightly projecting plain surround to the left, an inserted square window above the door, and two four-light recessed chamfered mullion windows to the right. There is also a blocked round-headed window to the left of the door at first-floor level, likely an original stair window. A banded stack is located opposite the door, positioned forward of the ridge. The left-hand bay of the cottage features a glazed door and 19th-century fenestration, with an end stack to the left.

Inside, there is a spine beam in the central main living room with scarfing that indicates the position of the bressumer, which supported a timber-framed fire hood. The bay to the right is not included in the listing.
