Description

Mill Dam Farmhouse and the attached cottage are a farmhouse and cottage dating from the 17th century and early 18th century, with some alterations from the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick and feature a plain tile roof, along with remnants of thatch covered by corrugated iron. The farmhouse has a central brick chimney and a gable end stack, following a T-plan layout with two storeys, a single storey, and an attic.

The farmhouse has a lobby entrance plan, with a central blocked doorway beneath a brick arch, which was the former lobby entrance. This doorway is flanked by Yorkshire sliding sash windows under flat brick header lintels, with a later doorway to the left. Above, there are two similar windows on either side of a smaller blocked window. The gable ends also feature three similar windows. Inside the farmhouse, there are stop-chamfered beams and exposed joists.

The cottage, located at the rear, has a single room baffle entry plan and retains some thatch beneath its corrugated iron roof. The east elevation includes a doorway to the right with a segmental arch, which is partly blocked by a later door. To the left is a two-light casement window under a segmental arch, and above is an eyebrow dormer window with a Yorkshire sash. Inside the cottage, the chimney stack has a large smoke chamber supported by a heavy beam, which features moulded stop chamfers. The interior also has chamfered beams and exposed joists, along with one upper cruck truss.
