Description

This milepost, located near Shawfield Head on Otley Road in Pannal, dates from the mid-19th century. It features a cast-iron face mounted on a gritstone support. The milepost is triangular in section with a semicircular head and stands approximately 80 centimetres high. The inscriptions on the head read "DUDLEY HILL KILLINGHALL & HARROGATE ROAD PANNAL." The left face indicates "KILLINGHALL 4 MILES," while the right face shows "BRADFORD 16 MILES." The iron plate is secured to the gritstone support with two round-headed bolts through the head.
