Description
This milestone and constabulary boundary stone, made of dressed stone, stands approximately 26 centimeters square and 188 centimeters (6 feet 2 inches) tall. It was erected in 1738 and is located south of Penny Pot Lane in Killinghall.
The north face features an incised hand pointing east, with the inscription "M:IIIi" inside it and "KNARS BROUGH" below. The middle section has another incised hand pointing west, with the inscription "M:XIi" and "SKIPTON" underneath. The lower section includes the inscription "IW WB SURVA ORS."
On the western face, incised lettering reads "HERE ENDETh THE CONS TABELI OF KILLI NG HALL T:B CON: 1738." The lettering on both sides is easily legible.
This milestone serves a dual purpose, marking distances to Knaresborough and Skipton while also indicating its location on the edge of the constabulary of Killinghall. It is recognized for its historical significance and well-preserved inscriptions.
