Description

No 6 High Street is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with later alterations and additions. It is possibly timber framed and features narrow reddish-brown handmade brick that is rendered and colorwashed on the front, with the lower part faced in white glazed brick. The roof is a combination of pantiles and handmade plain tiles.

The house has a central direct entry and is designed as a two-cell house with a continuous outshut at the rear and a later extension. It stands two storeys high and has two first-floor windows. The white glazed brick plinth projects under the left window, forming a display slab that indicates it was once a butcher's shop. The central doorway features a lower half-door in front of a four-panel door, all set under an elliptical arch. The windows include a 20th-century casement and a three-pane tripartite Yorkshire sash on the ground floor, while the first floor has a four-pane Yorkshire sash and a six-pane tripartite Yorkshire sash. The roof is swept with end stacks.

At the rear, there is an original outshut beneath a catslide roof, along with a later two-storey gable-ended outshut. The interior features chamfered beams with plain stops in the ground floor rooms, although it has not been fully inspected.
