Description

This early 19th-century house and butcher's shop stands on the north side of Cawood Market Place. The building is constructed of brown brick with wooden shop frontage, stone sills, and a pantile roof. The original dwelling is located to the left. The building is two storeys high with two first-floor windows visible in each unit, and a single-storey outshut extends from the left gable end.

The butcher's shop to the right has a wooden shop front with pilasters and consoles supporting a cornice that aligns with the first-floor band. A 20th-century window now fills the front. A corner entrance is accessed via a 20th-century glazed door, and above it are two sash windows with glazing bars, set beneath cambered arches and stone sills. A dentilled eaves cornice runs along the top.

To the left, the dwelling is entered via a four-panel door, which is sheltered by a doorcase with pilasters, cornice, and a hood. A four-pane sash window is situated to the right of the door, and the first floor features sashes with glazing bars, all set beneath flat brick arches and with stone sills. A modillion eaves cornice adorns the top. The outshut has a mid to late 19th-century sash window with plate glass, where the lower section of glazing bars has been removed. End and ridge stacks are present.
