Description
No 8 Market Place is a house and shop dating from the mid-18th century, featuring a 19th-century shop front and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brown brick with a rendered and whitewashed facade, accented by magnesian limestone dressings and a wooden shop front. It has a pantile roof and stands two storeys high with three first-floor windows.
On the right side, there is a recessed entrance to the shop, which has double doors with glass panels beneath a rectangular fanlight. Plate glass windows are located on either side of the entrance, positioned under a fascia and cornice that are supported by consoles and pilasters. To the left, there is a 20th-century window, while the first floor features 16-pane sash windows with stone cills. The building has stone kneelers and coping on the right gable, a swept roof, and end and ridge stacks. Inside, some beamed ceilings can be found. The building is included in the listing partly for its group value.
