Description
No 2 Market Place is a house dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick, which has been colourwashed, and features a pantiled roof. The building likely originally had a lobby-entry plan and has a double-span roof. It stands two storeys high with attics and has a four-window front.
On the ground floor, there are early 20th-century shopfronts that were remodelled in the late 20th century. The first floor includes a 16-pane sash window in the first bay, a 2-pane sash window with a sill in the second bay, a blocked opening in the third bay, and a 12-pane sash window in the fourth bay. The building has a stepped brick eaves cornice and a large axial stack. There is also a sash window with a sill and glazing bars under a wedge lintel with a projecting keyblock on the right gable, and the gables are raised and coped.
