Description

The building is a former Social Services Area Office, dated 1848 as shown on a plaque in the centre gable. It is constructed of local light red brick with sandstone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The building is a symmetrical one-storey structure with short, projecting gabled end wings, arranged over seven bays. The design incorporates Tudor detailing, including stone quoins, gable copings, kneelers, a plinth, and window dressings that alternate between block chamfered jambs and keyed lintels. A Tudor arched window with a dripmould and patterned glazing is found in the projecting, gabled central bay. Tudor arched doors, now blocked, are present in the inner wing returns. Slit windows are located in the outer gable ends. Originally, the building served as a gatehouse for Springfield House. It was formerly located on Tanton Road. As of 2017, it has been reported as residential.
