Description

Walshford Farm Shop, formerly the old Grammar School, was built in 1832, as indicated by a plaque above the doorway that reads "Preston School." The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof with a stepped gable end facing the road. It is a single tall storey. The central doorway is pointed-arched and has a hooded niche above it, flanked by pointed windows with Y-tracery, all under drip moulds. The east side has a battlemented three-bay return, while the northern extension is simpler in design. A blue plaque notes that this was the first grammar school in the town. Inside, the main school room includes a moulded cornice and a central circular border.
