Description
The Kylix and pedestal, located approximately 60 metres north-west of Atlas Fountain at Castle Howard, date from the early 19th century and were designed by C. H. Tatham. Made of sandstone, the structure stands about 3 metres tall and features a single step leading up to the pedestal, which has a moulded base, sunk panels with waterleaf borders, and a quadripartite acanthus motif at the centre. The frieze is decorated with a bead and ovolo design, topped by an egg-and-dart moulded cornice. The kylix itself is fluted with a lipped rim. This piece is included for its group value within the historic context of Castle Howard, which is registered as a Grade I park and garden of special historic interest in England.
