GV II

Two houses, now two shops and offices. Mid C19; left wall to No.20 rebuilt in C20, probably in association with demolition of adjoining building. Pink and cream mottled brick front in English garden-wall bond to No.20, painted to No.18; stone doorcase, and painted stone plinth, forming risers to shop windows. Shallow pitched roofs, of tile to No.18 and corrugated pantile to No.20; three ridge stacks of brick, 2 truncated. 2-storey 6-window front. No.18 has full-width shop front of part-grooved pilasters with moulded imposts, beneath grooved and gableted corbels, plain frieze and dentil cornice; half-glazed and panelled double doors between plate glass windows. Double shop front to No.20, of cast-iron composite columns with fluted inserts, and dentilled moulded cornice. Half-glazed and panelled double doors beneath overlight, recessed between half-canted plate-glass windows over moulded risers. At left end, segment-arched doorway in eared surround with grooved volute keyblock contains half-glazed and panelled double doors. First floor windows are 12-pane sashes with painted stone sills, beneath cambered arches. Included for group value.
