Description
No. 4 Wells Lane is likely a former pair of houses that has been converted into a house and shop. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and underwent alterations, raising, and extension in the mid-19th century. The right side was rebuilt around 1965. The front is made of painted brick, while the left side features pink and cream mottled brick, the right side is constructed of red brick in stretcher bond, and the rear is made of rubble stone, which has been raised in brick. The building has a moulded timber eaves cornice and a pantile roof with a coped right gable and brick end stacks.
It is two storeys high with an attic and has a four-window front. To the left of the centre is a half-glazed house door with an overlight, accompanied by a single-pane sash window further to the left. On the right side, there is a pilaster and cornice shop front that includes a wide six-pane sash window above a boarded riser. The first floor features two single-pane sash windows and two blocked windows. All openings, except for the shop window, have painted flat arches of gauged brick with keyblocks, and all windows except the shop window have painted stone sills. The attic contains two gabled and bargeboarded dormers with single-pane sashes.
