Description
Nos. 5 and 5A on Yorkersgate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring a painted stone shopfront. It has a stepped brick eaves cornice and a pantile roof, with a coped left gable and brick end stacks.
The structure is two stories high with a three-window front. The shop front includes a double entrance and a doorcase supported by rusticated pilasters, which have moulded imposts and are topped by a moulded console cornice. To the left, there is a passage door made up of three moulded panels, which is topped with a diamond-patterned overlight and a blind tympanum. The bordered diamond-glazed shop door, set between half canted plate-glass windows, also features a similar overlight. The first-floor windows are single-pane sashes, positioned beneath flat arches made of gauged brick, which have brick triple keyblocks. The windows are equipped with painted stone sills that extend to form a flat sillband.
