Description

The Maltings at Joshua Tetley and Sons Limited, formerly known as Nos. 7-13 The Old Brewery, is a building located on Castlegate in Malton. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and underwent restoration in the 20th century. The structure is built from pink and cream mottled brick in English bond, with cream brick dressings and an eaves course made of orange-red moulded brick. It features a half-hipped slate roof adorned with wrought-iron corner scrolls.

The building has a three-storey, nine-bay façade characterized by blind arcading with round arches supported by pilasters, and a plinth with a chamfered band. In the center bay, there are segment-arched double board doors, while all other openings consist of segment-arched windows with stone sills; the ground floor windows are glazed, while those on the upper floors are open and fitted with diamond-lattice iron grilles. A moulded brick eaves cornice runs along the top of the building.

On the left side, the building has three storeys and four arcaded bays, with window openings similar to those on the main front. The gable end features a border of stepped brick corbels beneath the eaves cornice. The right side also has three storeys and an attic with three arcaded bays, displaying the same detailing as the left return. An iron lifting platform with railings is located in the attic, supported by scrolled iron brackets within a gabled housing.
