Description

Number 50 and the attached Post Office, shop, and garage is a farmhouse and barn that has been converted into a house, Post Office, garage, and shop. It dates from around 1800 and has undergone later alterations and extensions. The building is constructed of squared limestone with a brick eaves course and irregular quoins, topped with a pantile roof featuring brick stacks, one of which has been rebuilt.

The structure is L-shaped, with a central staircase plan for the house. The house itself is two stories high with a two-window front. It has a central 20th-century door and a 2-light casement window to the right, while the remaining windows are 2-light, 24-pane horizontal sliding sashes. There are no openings in the wall further to the right, which is the end wall of the former barn. The house has stacks at the end left and centre right.

The Post Office, shop, and garage section is also two stories and features a four-window front. The shop front is to the left with 20th-century openings, and there are double boarded garage doors to the right. The first floor has 2-light horizontal sliding sashes without glazing bars. All windows have painted stone sills, and the ground-floor openings feature painted wedge lintels, while the first-floor windows have painted timber lintels. This building is included for its group value.
