Description
The former cow house and attached shelter shed, located immediately north of the Crofters Public House, is an early 19th-century structure that has been altered and is now used as a disused community centre and part of the public house. The buildings are constructed of red sandstone rubble and feature graduated slate roofs. The cow house is L-shaped, consisting of a two-storey, eight-bay section that connects to a one-storey, seven-bay shelter shed.
The cow house has large quoins, three boarded doors, and three casements set under segmental arches. It also includes slit vents and two round-arched pitching holes on the first floor. The rear of the cow house features two round-arched doors that are accessed by a 20th-century ramp and stairs. The interior was not inspected during the survey, but it was noted to be timber-buttressed.
The shelter shed has four open-fronted bays supported by monolithic limestone piers, with the fifth bay infilled. Bays six and seven have been altered to integrate with the Crofters Public House. The structure includes principal-rafter trusses. Together, these buildings are part of a planned farm group.
