Description
This barn, now used as a cow house, dates from the mid-18th century and is located on the roadside to the north-west of Stank Farmhouse in Barrow in Furness. It is constructed from yellow sandstone rubble and features a graduated slate roof. The barn is tall and single-storey, comprising six bays with quoins.
On the left side, there is a cart entrance that has blockwork infill beneath a wooden lintel, while a small doorway on the right has an oak lintel. The barn also includes two rows of rectangular vent holes. The right side has a loft door accessed by external stone steps. The left side features vent holes arranged in three rows, with an additional row below the gable apex.
Inside, there are five principal-rafter trusses, two of which have collars. There is a later lean-to structure against the rear, but it is not of special interest.
