Description

The former mine building, located immediately to the north of Glenfield House, dates from around 1875 and is now used as a farm outbuilding. It is constructed from snecked red sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features slate and corrugated iron roofs. The building has a T-shaped layout with two storeys in the main range, which consists of three bays, and a single-storey wing on the south-west side.

On the south-east elevation, there are quoins, and the crosswing on the left has a quoined hayloft door with a three-pane overlight beneath a pointed arch. To the right, the main range has a double door with a four-pane overlight flanked by casement windows, all of which are quoined and have plain lintels. A first-floor sill band runs beneath a gabled dormer with an oversailing verge, featuring a slit vent on the left and a six-pane sash window on the right, with a stack at the right end. The one-storey side wing has rounded corners and an entrance in the end gable; its roof meets the crosswing beneath a small gable with an oversailing verge.

Inside, the ground floor of the crosswing contains a chamfered doorway and a relieving arch leading to a stable with a cast-iron post and two wooden stalls, as well as an adjacent carriage house. The main range was likely used by workmen or as a workshop. This building is part of the iron-ore mine group built to serve Stank No.2 pit.
